BKBNL defending Champions, The Hoops Rwanda outperformed their rivals, APR WBBC in a league opener as IPRC Huye make an emphatic statement with a win against Ubumwe.
Despite acquiring The Hoops’ guard, Laurence Imanizabayo before the start of this season, APR failed to overcome The Hoops as they were overwhelmed in Saturday’s encounter at Petit Stade. The game scores were 24-13, 12-19, 24-14, and 13-13 to make it 73-59.
Rosine Micomyiza scored a game-high 28 points including hitting 4 threes. Faustine Mwizerwa scored 18 while Feza Ebengo added 10, grabbed 18 rebounds, and provided 6 assists for her team. APR’s Laurence Imanizabayo and Charlotte Umugwaneza scored 19 and 14 points respectively.
In another game, IPRC South dominated Ubumwe in every aspect of the game to beat them 89-49
The Southerners just played with a more complete team game and outdid Ubumwe BBC in every quarter. They played a clean game that made a statement to their opponents in the league. The Jean Claude Muhirwa coached side won all quarters of the game, 25-9, 20-8, 22-14, and 22-18 to finish with an 89-49 win.
Apart from Cecile’s 18 points contribution, IPRC Huye got 16 points from Odile Tetero, 16 from Nicole Urwibutso, as well as 11 apiece from Sandrine Mushikiwabo and team captain Isatha Carletta.
For Ubumwe, new signing Sandra Kantore scored 16 points and she was the only Ubumwe player to score in double digits.
Elsewhere, UR Huye gets a narrow win, 57-55 over Groupe Scolaire Marie Reine.
