Rwanda’s AfroBasket 2025 campaign ended in disappointment as they fell 75–62 to Cape Verde, closing the group stage winless (0–3) and finishing 13th out of 16 teams.
On August 17, in Namibe, Rwanda suffered yet another defeat, sealing a campaign without a single victory.
After back-to-back losses against Côte d’Ivoire and DR Congo, Dr. Cheikh Sarr’s team was expected to respond and fight for their pride, aiming to avoid exiting the tournament winless.
However, Rwanda, who had only beaten Gabon in the Qualifiers, lost to Cape Verde by 13 points, falling short of the 12-point margin needed to keep quarterfinal hopes alive.
Rwanda trailed for the entire game and were outmuscled on the boards, 33–53, scoring only 26 points in the paint compared to Cape Verde’s 36.
This marks the first time Rwanda have left the continental competition without a single win in their seven appearances since 2007.
It was a disappointing outing for the country, as the women’s team also exited Abidjan with an 0–3 record.
Rwanda finishes AfroBasket 2025 in 13th place, ahead of Madagascar, Uganda, and Libya, who also concluded the tournament winless.
