Moses Basena’s Sunrise signed Mugabo from Kenya Premier League

Sunrise has confirmed the signing of a Rwandan defender from KCB

The Centre-back, who completed 2-years contract at KCB, the club did not want to extend his contract as a result he opted to move to Nyagatare district based club in eastern Province of Rwanda.

Sunrise FC struggled defensively last season. In 23 games, they scored 36 goals and conceded 33 goals even if their former striker Babuwa Samson led the scorer’s charts.

It is in this context that the team is concerned with building a sustainable defense. Ndayishimiye Celestin and Mpozembizi Mohamed, both defenders, signed from Police FC.

Hereafter, via their twitter account, Sunrise announced that they have signed Gabriel Mugabo.

“The team is pleased to announce the signing of Rwandan International defender, Mugabo Gabriel. He is a Sunrise FC player for the next 2 years”

The team has also given letters to players urging them to return to the club’s headquarters to hold a meeting to prepare for next season. The Rwanda Premier League season 2020-2021 is tentatively scheduled to kick-off on October 30, 2020

Abouba Bashunga confirms Buildcon FC exit

Rwandan goalkeeper Abouba Bashunga has parted ways with Zambia’s Buildcon FC and returned home to join the southern province based team, Mukura Victory Sport.

Bashunga, who signed one year contract with a renewable option was a second choice goalkeeper behind Tresor Njana in Builcon FC that survived the relegation in 2019/2020 season

The goalie is remembered in Rayon Sports team that reached the quarter-finals of the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup

Meanwhile, Abouba is not the only Rwandan to part ways with Buildcon FC in this transfer window, defender Faustin Usengimana also joined Rwanda’s Police FC.

Patrick Sibomana has joined Police FC (Rwanda) on a one year contract.

Following the release from Tanzania’s Yanga Africans at the end of last season, Rwandan striker Patrick Sibomana, known as Pappy, has signed for Rwanda’s Police FC.

This player is not blessed to play outside the country. He just returned home after one year in Tanzania’s Yanga Africans where he joined from Mukura VS. He also played one season for Mukura VS after leaving Belarus’s Shakhtyor Soligorsk where he also played one season.

He became the seventh player to have signed for Police FC in this transfer window after Rutanga Eric and Iradukunda Eric from Rayon Sports, Martin Fabrice Twizerimana from SC Kiyovu, Faustin Usengimana from Zambia’s Buildcon FC, Evode Ntwali from Mukura VS and goalkeeper Janvier Kwizera from Bugesera FC.

The top division football championship in Tanzania has started. Day 1 matches were played on Sunday, September 6, 2020. kicking off with Namungo hosting Coastal Union at Majaliwa Stadium, the match ended with a lone goal score win for Namungo scored by Burundian striker Blaise Bigirimana.

New promoted side, Ihefu hosted Simba in Mbeya City, and the champions welcomed them in premier league with a 2-1 win thanks to Bocco and Yassin while the home team’s goal was scored by Omary Mponda signed this year from relegated side Ndanda.

Following Simba’s victory, the rivals Young africans had to respond but failed to collect all three points against Tanzania Prisons. Match ended with 1 goal draw, Micheal Sarpong scored for young to cancel the lead of Prisons through Sabiyanka.

On Monday, Azam FC of Nicholas Wadada took all points of the game against Polisi thanks to a Zambian, Aubrey Chirwa’s strike in first half. Then the big win of Day 1 appeared at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium where KMC beaten Mbeya City FC four goals to zero.

The first round of the Burundi Football Championship kicked off on Saturday, September 5th. 6 games were played out of 8 scheduled games.

The League started full of surprises, as the defending champions Le Messager Ngozi started their journey with a heavy defeat against Flambeau du Centre at the Ingoma Stadium with a score of three goals to none

The historical team Vital’O were not good enough on their first game of the season at the Intwari Stadium, they hosted Police force team Rukunzo and which ended in a defeat. Landry Ndikumana and Hamissi Bizimana were on target for the latter

Bumamuru and Kayanza United didn’t appear on the stadium due to players who have not yet received licenses to play the league. According to the Burundi Football Federation law of competition, Les Elephants and Bujumbura City that were supposed to play against them got an automatic win sharing two goals each.

In other matches, Musongati with the help of Olivier Dusabe defeated Inter Star at the Ingoma Stadium in Gitega Province.

2020 Congress Organizers Norminations

CAVB Board meets via Zoom to nominate the 2020 Congress organisers

Cairo, Egypt, September 5, 2020- The African Volleyball Confederation “CAVB” Board of Administration presided by Dr Amr Elwani meets on Sunday September 6, 2020 at 13:00 Cairo time (11:00 GMT) via zoom to nominate the CAVB Congress organisers to be held on October 24 and 25, 2020.

After the end of the deadline, 3 countries send their applications to host the Congress, namely Uganda, Niger and Tanzania, while Rwanda and Togo sent their applications after the closure of the system on August 30, 2020 at 12:00 Cairo time, 10:00 GMT.

The CAVB will declare on September 7, 2020 the final host of the Congress after the final decision taken by CAVB Board of Administration.

The Congress organisation was dedicated before to South Africa, but due to the widespread of Coronavirus in the country, CAVB decided to re-open the applications to host the event.

“We need to follow CAVB regulation and show the transparency in choosing the organiser of the Congress,” Said CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani

“The CAVB Board will declare the final decision after the meeting following the final inspection of all the documents sent to CAVB from the 5 NFs.

COVID-19 Funds Recieved – All Happy Faces For UPL Clubs

StarTimes Uganda Premier League clubs received a total of 527m UGX to share 33m UGX each as fund allocated to help remedy the issues clubs face during the COVID-19 Pandemic says the league website SUPL

The secretariat received  52m UGX and Bainamani said, “It’s a big relief to the secretariat and we shall use it for a few salaries and other outstanding overhead costs.”

The League was concluded after playing 25 fixtures due to the novel pandemic. The upcoming season is scheduled for October 2020.

Mamelodi Sundowns Crowned 2019/20 Champions.

With a tenth title and third in a row, champions Mamelodi Sundowns cliched the ABSA Premiership title after a 3-0 win over Black Leopards with all three goals coming from forward Lebo Maboe in the 45+5′, 53′ and 90+2′.

Before matchday 30, Kaizer Chiefs were favourites to win the title sharing points with the champions but with a bigger goal difference. Both teams were facing relegation zone sides Black Leopards and Baroka. To win the title, Kaizer Chiefs needed to win and also maintain a greater goal difference against the champions but instead, they dropped shared a point with Baroka who were fighting demotion.

After 30 games played Sundown finished 2 points clear of Kaizer Chiefs.

Uganda Cranes respected goalkeeper, Dennis Onyango did not attend the medal awarding ceremony stating that he had to respect COVID-19 rules.

“I didn’t pick up the medal from the stadium because there is a limited number of people allowed in the stadium because of the health situation due to the coronavirus.”

“There is a maximum of 100 people allowed in the stadium including the match officials, TV crew members. So, they didn’t take everyone because of the regulations of COVID-19.”

“Of course, there are other players who stayed with me in the hotel. They only took 20 players in the squad plus the officials and medical team.”

“That’s what will happen also in the Nedbank Cup final because there are a limited number of people allowed in the stadium just to follow guidelines from the government.”

The skipper has won this title on 7 occasions, three with SuperSport United and four with Sundowns.

With 56 points in 29 ties and one more match to finish the league, Kaizer Chiefs are favorites to win the title.

Sundowns share points with chiefs but Title contenders have a greater goal difference. Both teams face relegation battle sides Baroka and Black Leopards on Saturday.

Chiefs forward Samir Nurkovic state, “We have the confidence and that is what we must take to this match. It will not be easy. It has not been since we returned. Baroka are fighting for their lives and this will make them a difficult side.”

“But Chiefs is a big club and it is not right that we have not won anything in five years. We need to put on a big performance. Our team has been on top of the log since the season started. We must finish what we started,” the Chiefs forward said.

Started 1963, the club belongs to Kampala Capital City Authority, the body that is responsible for operations in Uganda’s capital city.

The 2005 league winners are fully owned by the Uganda Police Force.

BUL FC

The Jinja based club belongs to BIDCO Uganda Limited, a consumer goods company.

UPDF FC

Uganda People’s Defence Force Football Club (UPDF FC) formerly Simba FC is owned by the Army institution.

2. Private Clubs

Owned by a shareholding of natural and/or legal persons. This model is principally setup for football business purposes

Vipers SC

The four-time league champions are owned by three individuals. These include Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa (90%), Tadeus KItandwe (5%) and Haruna Kyobe (5%).

Bright Stars FC

Bright Stars FC is owned by five persons namely; Soltilo (U) Limited (70%), Ronald Mutebi (19%), Ahmed Hussein (6%), Joseph Mubiru (3%) and Tadec Miiro (2%).

Mbarara City FC

This is owned by Hon. Mwine Mpaka Rwamirama who is also the Member of Parliament representing the Youth in the Western region.

Wakiso Giants FC

Wakiso Giants FC is owned by two people namely; Hassan Lule and Ahmed Mbabi.

MYDA FC

The newly promoted side is owned by five people that include Andrew Matovu (55%), Abdulahi Mohamadi (30%), Baker Musaazi (5%), Elisha Madanda (5%) and Catherine Nabweteme (5%).

Onduparaka FC

Based in Arua City in the West Nile region, Onduparaka FC is owned by Benjamin Nyakuni with majority share of 60% while Joe Erema has 40% shares.

Community Club

Owned by a membership of more than 100 or so fans. This model is setup for sport but proven most suitable for posterity and sports business.

Express FC

Express FC is owned by Express Sports Club limited.

SC Villa

SC Villa are the league record champions with 16 titles. The Club is owned by Sports Club Villa Limited.

4. Hybrid Model

A combination of the above models. This model is normally a compromise position of various inherited ownership, challenging to find suiting governance model practices.

Kyetume FC

Kyetume FC has elements of private and Institution. The 5 owners include; Reuben Kimera((60%), Hogi Nsubuga(21%), Kyetume CBHC Programme(15%), Henry Titus Kayondo(3) and David S. Kikabi(1%).

Busoga United FC

The majority shareholder at Busoga United FC is Dinah H.T Nyago with 51% shares. Jinja SS (board) has 35% while Busoga Kindom, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, Fredrick Gume Ngobi, Godfrey Bwire Osodo, Daniel Oketch, Robert Adotu and Samuel Mugabi have 2% each.
