Head coach Johnathan McKinstry names his 25 man contingent that will travel for the Pre-CHAN mini tournament and Sadiq Wassa takes over from ejected Fred Kajoba.

The head coach Jonathan McKinstry of the national senior men’s football team has announced his team that will depart from Entebbe International Airport to Cameroon for the Pre-CHAN mini-tournament today Monday, 28th December 2020, at 3 pm.

The mini-tournament will take place between 1st and 7th January 2020 with four teams taking part including hosts Cameroon, Uganda, Niger, and Zambia.

“We have been in camp a week now, and the players have all pushed really hard. It is very clear that everyone is focused and determined. They want their ticket to go to Cameroon, they want to go and represent Uganda. You can see that in terms of the enthusiasm, in terms of the energy, in terms of the learning that’s happening both in the classroom and on the field. So, we have been very pleased with the week, we came through it well, no injuries, one or two knocks but nothing serious,” said the head coach.

“And so, now we travel to Cameroon where we participate in a mini-tournament involving Cameroon, Zambia, and Niger and we think this is a really good platform for the players not only to get good match preparation as a team but also the opponents will be playing match up nicely against some of our group opponents in terms of the styles we can expect,” he added.

Sadiq Wassa has also been appointed the goalkeeping coach after Vipers head coach was ejected from the technical team after breaking COVID-19 rules when he left camp to go attend a church service on Christmas day.

Uganda is pitted in Group C with Morocco, Rwanda, and Togo. CHAN will kick off on 16th January 2021 in Yaounde, Cameroon with hosts playing Zimbabwe in the opening match. Uganda will face neighbours Rwanda two days after opening day.

Futsal Association Uganda FAU unites with sports facility and events management company Sport Edge and live broadcast company Deep End Sports Media.

The youngest and fast-growing sport in Uganda, futsal continues to broaden as the governing body has partnered with 2 companies, Sports Edge and Deep End Sports Media.

Sport Edge is an independent, full-service sports consultancy agency specializing in elite athlete management, image building, media relations, athlete branding, events and facility management and talent sourcing.

Deep End Sports Media is an online broadcast company that records, streams and distribute motion pictures from sports events.

CEO Ibrahim Mugera on boxing day at a media brief announced the MOUs that the association signed with the two parties named above and what facilities they bring that will see the growth of the young sport.

FAU in November went into another union with Uganda Youth Football Association that will bring futsal to the interest of youth in the country with major aspects of the project included competition, coaching, and refereeing.

The new tie-up with Sport Edge will bring onboard the service of sports events management of the Corporate Futsal Tournament with technical expertise, operational amenities, gate collections as well as doing marketing and promotion for the futsal tournament provided.

“This is a great opportunity to take the game of futsal to the corporate family as we have really been missing it on this segment of the game but we hope that this will be a great tool for creating awareness for the game of futsal,” said CEO FAU Mr. Ibrahim Mugera

“We look forward to taking on the next or immediate event scheduled for around March 2021. So we call upon all corporates to join hands to improve the game of futsal and give athletes a chance to excel and also have endorsements equally earned from their efforts,” said Sports Edge Limited Executive Director Norbert Kazibwe.

As for Deep End Sports Media, we have seen them at mainly the National Basketball League and cricket events so this means that futsal will stream on both Deep End sports and FAU media platforms.

“Deep End gets to record, broadcast and distributes all futsal games that inclusive of the pre-game and post-game material on all online Deep End Sports media and FAU sports media. So, this a great opportunity for futsal as a game as it aims at creating more game awareness especially on the online media platform,” Ibrahim said.

“We are very excited to get into a partnership with Futsal Uganda. We shall be streaming live futsal games, all you have to do is to go onto YouTube, look for Deep End Sports Media,” said DES Media Operations Manager.

Yanga could wrap up 2020 maintaining the long unbeaten run in the 2020/2021 league campaign and staying at the top of the table.

Yanga was established in 1935 and is one of Tanzania’s most successful clubs that boasts a rich and dominant history with numerous league titles racked in the club’s trophy shelf. The club continues to exhibit dominance in Tanzania this league campaign where they are undoubtedly league title front runner with a long unbeaten run since the current league launched.

Yanga Vice-Chairperson, Fredrick Mwakalebela voiced that the club is even stronger than ever before and for that matter, it will maintain the outcomes that the fans have witnessed and love.

“Let me thank all Yanga Fans from Mbeya for the warm reception they have given us ever since we arrived here. I hope that they will continue to rally behind their team for the whole period we will be here,” said the club Vice-Chairperson.

Young Africans SC sit at the summit of the table 11 points clear of Simba who has 32 points with 3 games in hand. A well equipped Yanga hope to maintain its undefeated as they visit Tanzania Prison at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Sumbawanga. The first leg saw both sides share the spoils 1-1 and this will their opening match of the second leg.

Ever since matchday 11, Young Africans SC has preserved forerunner position and they hope to continue this run on matchday 18 and with 43, they look unstoppable. Tanzania Prison has proved to be a tough side when they met Yanga, therefore, the visitors have their work cut out. Simba with 3 games in hand still will not make 43 points if they win all 3.

CAF Confederation Cup: AS Kigali has been handed 2-0 Win After Walkover against KCCA FC

AS Kigali

The CAF Confederation Cup match between AS Kigali and KCCA FC that was supposed to be played today has been canceled.

The decision comes after Uganda side KCCA has not been able to get the number of players determined by the CAF for the team to be allowed to play the match.

The KCCA arrived in Kigali on Sunday night without their head coach Mike Mutebi and some of the key players including the 3 goalkeepers. The insiders said that the number of players and some other staff members tested positive for COVID-19 and could not travel to Kigali.

Of the 15 KCCA players traveled to Rwanda, two of them were diagnosed and tested positive for COVID-19 last night. CAF rules stipulate that when a team does not have 15 players including a goalkeeper thus failing to play a match, it is penalized by automatically conceding 2 goals, which is why AS Kigali has been handed a 2-0 goal advantage.

KCCA FC has to prepare for the second leg match scheduled at MTN Omondi Stadium on January 6, 2021.

KCCA FC was among the elite teams in CAF Confederation Cup this year that did not play the first preliminary round due to the impressive run they had in past CAF Competitions.

AS Kigali reached this stage after eliminating Orapa United on the away goals rule.  In the first match, the Kigali city-sponsored club lost 2-1 in Botswana then AS Kigali won the second leg 1-0 at Kigali Stadium.  Nigerian striker Aboubakal Lawal scored the lone goal.

Former Uganda Volleyball Federation president, Sadik Nasiwu intends to stand for the post again after picking nomination forms and publically declaring.

In a circular addressed to all UVF affiliates in November 2020, the volleyball governing body UVF called for interested persons to pick nomination forms for the 8 slots available in the UVF Elective Positions. The posts include President, 1st Vise President, 2nd Vise President, General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, Treasurer, Club Representatives (3), and District Associations Representative (3).

Executive member of Uganda Olympic Committee, FIVB internal auditor, and professional accountant, Sadik Nasiwu has publically declared his interest to stand for the post of Uganda Volleyball Federation president.

Mr. Sadik Nasiwu served as UVF president for 8 years from 2008 to 2016 when he stepped down citing that he felt that he had served enough. “Recently, looking at the status of the game of volleyball before and now, and the requests I have received both locally, regionally, and internationally, I believe that it is time again to command work for the game of volleyball,” said Mr. Sadik Nasiwu.

During the 2020 Elective Congress was held to decide the next leaders of the volleyball governing of Africa (CAVB), incumbent president Hadija Namanda aspired for the post Gender Minority against Agness Nakaonga KAKOMA from Zambia and Mpho PALIME from Lesotho. The post was won by the Lesotho delegate. It is not yet clear whether the incumbent president will return to retain her Title.

“The shortfalls which I had in my regime was lack of understanding of other stakeholders’ interest. Sometimes we felt they expected too much or their expectations were not clear, but after the 4 fours of seeing what is going on, we have also understood exactly what they were asking for and I believe they had a point at a particular time,” mentioned Mr. Sadik Nasimu.

Sadik mentioned some of the achievements during his regime which included bringing on national league sponsors NSSF, technical development of coaches and referees, and grass-root development of the sport.

The election of the next UVF executive members will take place on 31 January 2020.

Happy X-Mass For Brian Aheebwa At First Season Break

It will be a happy X-Mass for KCCA striker Brian Aheebwa as he tops the score charts as the new league champaign heads into the first break.

Mike Mutebi’s new season signing Brian Aheebwa has not disappointed his coach, team, and himself after a tremendous performance as the league break for X-Mas. The striker has bagged 7 goals topping the charts ahead of Police FC’s Ben Ocen who has 6 goals to his name.

Brian Aheebwa started the campaign in the league opener KCCA FC played against Soltilo Bright Stars at Kavumba recreation center. KCCA FC won this away fixture thanks to the first 2020/2021 league goal from Brian and another from his perfect match Ssenyonjo.

The pair were at it again on matchday 2 when they hosted Onduparaka at the MTN Omondi Stadium. The visitors suffered the biggest lost loss of the season so far, giving KCCA FC an 8 goal clean sheet win. Brian Aheebwa and Ssenyonjo’s gestures were not sympathetic towards the visitors. Brian scored 4 goals to make his goal tally 5 and Senyonjo scores 3. KCCA FC went to the top of the table after this win.

On matchday 3 Brian did not register any goals however, his side managed to win the match 2-0 against Mbarara City. KCCA stayed at the top of the league standings again.

Brian continued to add to his tally after a penalty spot kick goal for his side in the 89th minute in a game they lost 2-1 away to SC Villa. This loss made the kasasiro boys drop points and one position after their matchday 4.

In their last match before the X-Mas break, KCCA FC continued to lose points after a defeat from tax collectors URA FC 1-2, and Brian Aheebwa scored the only goal for his side. KCCA is 4th in the league table but Brian sits at the top of the scorer’s charts.
